October 15-21 is the 2020 National Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week. As one of the key activities of this week, the "5G Application Innovation Summit Forum" was grandly held in Beijing. The forum is hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and jointly organized by the China Institute of Communications, China Mobile Communications Corporation and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

Towards traditional industries such as coal and metallurgy.

With high bandwidth, low latency, and large connections, the superior performance of 5G is often reminiscent of tall industries. However, at this summit forum, the application of 5G in traditional industries shared by experts will deepen your understanding of it.

 

"In the past, the coal industry has done some exploration work in the areas of automation, unmanned operation, and intelligent inspection of fully mechanized mining face and tunneling face. However, the transmission link has problems such as difficult wired maintenance, narrow wireless bandwidth, and high time delay. Many systems can only achieve monitoring, not real-time monitoring." Haigang Wang, deputy general manager of Xinyuan Company of Yangmei Group, introduced at the forum. The application of 5G technology solves the problem of the card neck of the transmission link, helps the transformation of traditional automation to intelligent control technology. And is expected to realize the intelligence of the mine.

 

Haigang Wang, shared at the forum the situation of 5G assisting the construction of intelligent mines in many ways.

 

For example, 5G can facilitate the transparent visualization of mines, and upload 4K high-definition videos from multiple locations underground at the same time. Intelligent analysis realizes the visual management of downhole operating environment, personnel and equipment. 5G can also facilitate the interconnection of everything in the mine, upload massive data, connect the mine underground, and achieve full coverage of equipment operation, spare parts, labor, warehousing, logistics, etc., and control the entire process of production and operation. 

 

Huang Zhenwang, member of the Party Committee and deputy general manager of China Mobile Communications Group Yunnan Co., Ltd., introduced at the forum that Yunnan Mobile Wenshan Funing County Company, together with partners such as ZTE, successfully won the bid for the 5G+MEC smart factory of Yunnan Shenhuo Aluminum Co., Ltd.

 

The project applies 5G to automatic meter reading, electrolytic cell leakage/energy consumption analysis, remote control of cranes, environmental monitoring and other links, which promotes cost reduction and efficiency enhancement, safe production, energy saving and environmental protection.

 

Put forward many new topics for innovation.

"5G is the first choice for digital infrastructure and leads the new infrastructure." Academician Hequan Wu of the Chinese Academy of Engineering said at the forum.

 

From the perspective of cloud computing, Hequan Wu analyzed that the download speed of 5G can reach hundreds of megabits per second, which even exceeds the read and write speed of mechanical hard drives. This means that installing the application on the cloud is even faster than installing on the local terminal, plug and play, and the experience is smooth. 

 

In addition, 5G and Industrial Internet will give birth to a large number of APPs. "5G adopts a service-based network system, accepts external APPs with open interfaces, and generates business units with APP modules. The intelligent combination can adapt to new business formats in the future." Hequan Wu said. 5G and Industrial Internet provide APP with a broad market and innovation opportunities.

 

However, in Wu Hequan's view, the implementation of 5G will also face many challenges. For example, in terms of confidential computing of data on the cloud, it is necessary to consider how to ensure that data can be shared but sensitive data is not leaked when cross-enterprise data integration. Although there is a trusted computing environment based on a black box, it still needs to prove the reliability of a third party. In addition, the key performance of 5G needs further development of application scenarios.

 

"The new infrastructure with 5G as an important platform will stimulate a larger market, accelerate the penetration and expansion of applications. It also brings new technical challenges and network security risks, and raises many new topics for innovation." Hequan Wu concluded.
