China Coal Technology and Engineering Group Wuhan Design & Research Institute's self-developed "Key Technology Research on Safe Conveyance Process of Pipeline with Sharp Drop for Relatively Coarse Iron Concentrate" has been awarded the Second Prize of the Metallurgical Mining Science and Technology Award. This technological achievement represents a major breakthrough in the fields of green conveyance and intelligent pipelines, has garnered high recognition from the industry, and has injected new quality productive forces into the pipeline transportation sector of China's iron ore industry.

Slurry pipeline transportation technology, characterized by being enclosed, continuous, energy-saving, and carbon-reducing, is hailed as the "fourth channel" for bulk mineral resource transport and is a green and efficient novel transportation method. China Coal Technology and Engineering Group Wuhan Design & Research Institute has achieved multiple key breakthroughs in the field of slurry pipeline transportation. Its domestically pioneered pipeline transportation technology for relatively coarse iron concentrate has been appraised as reaching internationally leading levels. The award-winning technology specifically addresses the challenge of "sharp drop" during the transportation of relatively coarse iron concentrate. Through systematic optimization of processes and parameters, the R&D team constructed for the first time a "pipeline conveyance model and anti-blockage method for relatively coarse iron concentrate with sharp drop," breaking the stranglehold situation of the slurry pipeline SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system in critical areas and successfully achieving domestic control over core technologies. Furthermore, aiming for green, efficient, long-distance, and large-drop iron concentrate transport, the team innovatively proposed a calculation method for the critical conditions of slurry pipeline blockage, clarifying the relationship between the critical conditions of pipeline blockage, pipeline layout, and conveyance parameters. The large-drop pipeline calculation model and multi-combination energy dissipation devices developed by the team effectively prevent the generation of accelerating flow, significantly enhancing the stability and safety of pipeline operation.

Currently, this technological achievement has been successfully applied in the Nanfen Iron Concentrate Pipeline project—the largest concentrator pipeline project independently designed in China. With an annual iron concentrate conveyance capacity of 5 million tons, this project not only greatly enhances transportation efficiency but also achieves remarkable results in energy saving, carbon reduction, and cost reduction, realizing an organic unity of economic, social, and environmental benefits.
