Recently, China Coal Technology & Engineering Group Chongqing Research Institute (CCTEG Chongqing Research Institute) successfully implemented the research project on "Applicable Technology and Equipment for Dust Prevention and Control in Excavation Faces under Complex Geological Conditions" at Anshan Coal Mine, operated by Shaanxi Coal Yubei Coal Industry Co., Ltd. This project fills a technical gap in dust control for low-height semi-coal-rock roadway bolting faces in coal mines, further perfecting the high-efficiency dust management system for such working areas, effectively providing miners with a sturdy "umbrella of health protection."

The widespread application of the roadheader-bolter integrated machine excavation technique has significantly improved coal mine development efficiency, but it has also led to severe dust pollution. This is particularly acute in low-height semi-coal-rock roadway bolting faces under 3 meters, where confined space prevents the installation of conventional machine-mounted dust control systems. The original respirable dust concentration in these areas can exceed 450 mg/m³, with visibility at the working face often less than 0.5 meters. Compounding the hazard, the dust frequently contains a high percentage of free silica (SiO₂), posing serious health risks to miners.

To address these challenges, CCTEG Chongqing Research Institute innovatively proposed a dust control system configuration featuring "dust extraction ducts arranged on the front roadheader-bolter + a dust collector installed on the rear self-advancing tailpiece + connection via a flexible rubber air duct." The institute developed a rear-mounted wet dust collector suitable for efficient processing of rock-type dust, with a handling capacity of up to 650 m³/min. This system was complemented by measures such as annular external spraying for source dust suppression and ducted air distribution for dust control. Ultimately, this integrated solution increased the dust suppression efficiency for respirable dust in low-height semi-coal-rock bolting faces from the original 45.3% to over 87.6%. Visibility at the working face improved to more than 20 meters, leading to a marked enhancement in the ambient working conditions.

Looking ahead, CCTEG Chongqing Research Institute will focus its R&D efforts on developing compact, high-airflow, high-negative-pressure dust control equipment. The institute is committed to continuously overcoming technical challenges, improving treatment outcomes, and promoting the advancement and broader application of coal mine dust prevention and control technologies.
